Titre : Fourier Transforms Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : N Sneddon Ian, Auteur Editeur : Dover Publications Année de publication : 1995 Importance : 542p Format : 21.5x13.5cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-486-68522-9 Langues : Anglais (eng) Langues originales : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Fourier Transforms Index. décimale : 510 Résumé : The purpose of this book is to present the theory of Fourier transforms and related topics in a form suitable for the use of students and research workers interested in the boundary value problems of physics and engineering.
The focus of the book is on applications, rather than on the theory itself; thus, the first three chapters are devoted to a general treatment of the fundamentals, but no attempt is made to present the foundation in their most general form. Instead, the main theorems are established for a certain class of functions which is sufficiently wide to embrace most of those which occur in problems in applied mathematics. The last seven chapters cover the uses of the theory in solving boundary and initial value problems in engineering and physics.
To make the book accessible to undergraduates beginning the study of theoretical physics, no specialized knowledge of physics is assumed, however a good grounding in advanced calculus is a prerequisite. Each chapter begins with a discussion of the physical fundamentals and the derivation of the basic equations. Moreover, the author has taken special pains to include, in the chapters on basic theory, not only the common properties of the Fourier transforms, but also those of the Mellin, Laplace, and Hankel transforms. Finite transforms, dual integral equations, the Wiener-Hopf procedure, and the properties of the Dirac delta function are also considered in some detail. The physical problems included in the text were carefully chosen for their importance and relevance to the topic under discussion.Fourier Transforms [texte imprimé] / N Sneddon Ian, Auteur . - [S.l.] : Dover Publications, 1995 . - 542p ; 21.5x13.5cm.

Titre : Handbook of Mathematical functions : With formulas, graphs, and mathematical tables Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Abramowitz Milton, Auteur ; A. Stegun Irene, Auteur Editeur : Dover Publications Année de publication : 1972 Importance : 1046p Format : 26.5x20cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-486-61272-0 Langues : Anglais (eng) Langues originales : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Mathematics Index. décimale : 510 Résumé : Despite the increasing use of computers, the basic need for mathematical tables continues. Tables serve a vital role in preliminary surveys of problems before programming for machine operation, and they are indispensable to thousands of engineers and scientists without access to machines. Because of automatic computers, however, and because of recent scientific advances, a greater variety of functions and a higher accuracy of tabulation than have been available until now are required. In 1954, a conference on mathematical tables, sponsored by M.I.T. and the National Science Foundation, met to discuss a modernization and extension of Jahnke and Emde's classical tables of functions. This volume, published 10 years later by the U.S. Department of Commerce, is the result. Designed to include a maximum of information and to meet the needs of scientists in all fields, it is a monumental piece of work, a comprehensive and self-contained summary of the mathematical functions that arise in physical and engineering problems. The book contains 29 sets of tables, some to as high as 20 places: mathematical constants Handbook of Mathematical functions : With formulas, graphs, and mathematical tables [texte imprimé] / Abramowitz Milton, Auteur ; A. Titre : Matrices And Linear Algebra Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Barker Schneider, Auteur ; George Phillip Barker, Auteur Editeur : Dover Publications Année de publication : 1973 Importance : 413p Format : 21.5x13.5cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-486-66014-1 Langues : Anglais (eng) Langues originales : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Matrices
AlgebraIndex. décimale : 510 Résumé : Linear algebra is one of the central disciplines in mathematics. A student of pure mathematics must know linear algebra if he is to continue with modern algebra or functional analysis. Much of the mathematics now taught to engineers and physicists requires it.
This well-known and highly regarded text makes the subject accessible to undergraduates with little mathematical experience. Written mainly for students in physics, engineering, economics, and other fields outside mathematics, the book gives the theory of matrices and applications to systems of linear equations, as well as many related topics such as determinants, eigenvalues, and differential equations.Note de contenu : Table of Contents:
l. The Algebra of Matrices
2. Linear Equations
3. Vector Spaces
4. Determinants
5. Linear Transformations
6. Eigenvalues and Eigenvectors
7. Inner Product Spaces
8. Applications to Differential Equations
For the second edition, the authors added several exercises in each chapter and a brand new section in Chapter 7. The exercises, which are both true-false and multiple-choice, will enable the student to test his grasp of the definitions and theorems in the chapter. The new section in Chapter 7 illustrates the geometric content of Sylvester's Theorem by means of conic sections and quadric surfaces. 6 line drawings. lndex. Two prefaces. Answer section.Matrices And Linear Algebra [texte imprimé] / Barker Schneider, Auteur ; George Phillip Barker, Auteur . - [S.l.] : Dover Publications, 1973 . - 413p ; 21.5x13.5cm.

Titre : Speed Mathematics Simplified Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Stoddard Edward, Auteur Editeur : Dover Publications Année de publication : 1995 Importance : 271p Format : 21.5x13.5cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-486-27887-2 Langues : Anglais (eng) Langues originales : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Mathematics Index. décimale : 510 Résumé : This entertaining, easy-to-follow book is ideal for anyone who works with numbers and wants to develop greater speed, ease, and accuracy in doing mathematical calculations.
In an inspiring introduction, science writer Edward Stoddard offers important suggestions for mastering an entirely new system of figuring. Without having to discard acquired information about mathematical computation, students build on the knowledge they already have, "streamline" these techniques for rapid use and then combine them with classic shortcuts.
Initially, readers learn to master a basic technique known as the Japanese "automatic" figuring method -- the principle behind the abacus. This method enables users to multiply without carrying, divide with half the written work of long division, and mentally solve mathematical problems that usually require pencil and paper or a calculator. Additional chapters explain how to build speed in addition and subtraction, how to check for accuracy, master fractions, work quickly with decimals, handle percentages, and much more.
A valuable asset for people in business who work with numbers on a variety of levels, this outstanding book will also appeal to students, teachers, and anyone looking for a reliable way to improve skill and speed in doing basic arithmetic.Speed Mathematics Simplified [texte imprimé] / Stoddard Edward, Auteur . - [S.l.] : Dover Publications, 1995 . - 271p ; 21.5x13.5cm.
