Titre : Host manipulations by parasites and viruses Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Heinz Mehlhorn, Auteur Editeur : Springer Année de publication : 2015 Importance : 192p Présentation : ill Format : 24x 15cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-3-319-37288-4 Langues : Anglais (eng) Langues originales : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 571 Physiologie et sujets voisins Résumé :
This edited volume focuses on parasite-host relationships and the behavioral changes parasites may trigger in their hosts. Parasites have developed strategies which enhance their chances to find a host to survive inside its body and to become most easily transmitted to one another. Many of these parasites influence the host’s behavior by various mechanisms, so that the rate of their transmissions to further hosts becomes considerably enhanced in comparison to that of non-influenced specimens of the same host species. A broad number of recent studies elucidate more and more examples in an extreme spectrum of host-parasite relationships, where successful transmission and /or survival of a parasite inside a host is based on parasite-derived behavioral manipulations of the hosts. In the literature, an increasing numbers of papers appear which prove that these behavioral alterations are based on complicated psychoimmunologic, neuropharmacologic and genomically steered mechanisms. Researchers working in parasitology or behavioral sciences will find this work thought-provoking, instructive and informativeNote de contenu :
Sommaire:
Introduction
1-Parasites:an oxn world of cross reactions with their hosts
2-Trait-mediated effects of parasites
3-Cooperation or conflict:host manipulation

5-Host manipulation by toxoplasma gondii
6-The brain worm story
7-The bodyguard phenomenon

Titre : Petrogenesis of metamorphic rocks Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Kurt Bucher, Auteur Mention d'édition : Ninth Edition Editeur : Springer Année de publication : 2023 Collection : Text Book Importance : 467P. Présentation : ill. Format : 24cm x 16cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-3-031-12593-5 Langues : Anglais (eng) Langues originales : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 552 Pétrologie : pétrographie, roches Résumé : .
From the reviews of the seventh edition:
"Petrogenesis of Metamorphic Rocks is, like the preceding six editions, a fine and important book. By and large, it is precise and accurate, clearly written, logically organized and well focused. It is suitable as a text for serious, no-nonsense, one-semester undergraduate course in metamorphic petrology … . ‘Winkler’s 7th’ is a suitable text for the graduate level." (Tomas Feininger, The Canadian Mineralogist, Vol. 40, 2003)
"This new edition of a classic text has packed in even more information than the previous editions. Extensive lists of up to date references, use of the most current data, and lists of currently available software and appropriate web sites add to the comprehensive content. … basic historical and scientific fundamentals are well covered and the very structured layout of the text makes basic information relatively easily to retrieve. … an excellent update to an excellent text." (Suzanne Miller, Geoscientist, Vol. 13 (9), 2003)
"Petrogenesis of Metamorphic Rocks has been written with the intention of giving senior level undergraduate and postgraduate students the practical knowledge and understanding needed to interpret metamorphic rocks … . Overall the book is well presented and up-to-date … . this is definitely one of the best texts available for advanced courses in metamorphic petrology, or for individuals wanting a modern reference text. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and I am sure I will use it as a source of information for teaching and research." Titre : Structural geology Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : A.R.Bhattacharya, Auteur Editeur : Springer Année de publication : 2022 Collection : Text Book Importance : 468p. Présentation : ill. Format : 28cm x 21m ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-3-030-80797-9 Langues : Anglais (eng) Langues originales : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 551 Géologie, météorologie, hydrologie générale Résumé : .
This textbook is a complete, up-to-date, and highly illustrated account of Structural Geology for students and professionals, and includes fundamentals of the subject with field and practical aspects. The book aims to be highly reader-friendly, containing simple language and brief introductions and summaries for each topic presented, and can be used both to refresh overall knowledge of the subject as well as to develop models for engineering projects in any area or region. The book is presented in 20 chapters and divided into 3 parts: (A) Fundamental Concepts, (B) Structures: Geometry and Genesis, and (C) Wider Perspectives. For the first time as full chapters in a textbook, the book discusses several modern field-related applications in Structural Geology, including shear-sense indicators, and deformation and metamorphism. Also uniquely included are colored photographs, side by side with line diagrams, of key deformation structures not seen in other books before now. Boxes in each chapter expand the horizons of the reader on the subject matter of the chapter. Questions at the end of each chapter, and detailed significance of the key structures, provide a better grasping to students. Glossary at the end of the book is a refreshing aspect for the readers. Though written primarily for undergraduate and graduate students, the text will also be of use to specialists and practitioners in engineering geology, petrology (igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic), economic geology, groundwater geology, petroleum geology, and geophysics, and will appeal to beginners with no preliminary knowledge of the subject.En ligne : https://cdn.kobo.com/book-images/f6d57328-bc79-49dc-ad3d-b9f0274397dc/300/300/Fa [...] Structural geology [texte imprimé] / A.R.Bhattacharya, Auteur . - [S.l.] : Springer, 2022 . - 468p. : ill. ; 28cm x 21m. - (Text Book) .
