Titre : The Future of Trauma Theory : ContemporaryLiterary and Cultural Criticism Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Gert Buelens, Samuel Durrant, Robert Eaglestone, Auteur Editeur : LONDON : Archives Contemporaines Année de publication : 2013 Format : 156 x 234 mm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-415-69459-9 Langues : Français (fre) Langues originales : Français (fre) Index. décimale : 809 Histoire, analyse, critique littéraires générales (et portant sur plus d'une littérature nationale) Résumé : This collection analyses the future of 'trauma theory', a major theoretical discourse in contemporary criticism and theory. The chapters advance the current state of the field by exploring new areas, asking new questions and making new connections. Part one, History and Culture, begins by developing trauma theory in its more familiar post-deconstructive mode and explores how these insights might still be productive. It goes on, via a critique of existing positions, to relocate trauma theory in a postcolonial and globalized world, theoretically, aesthetically and materially, and focuses on non-Western accounts and understandings of trauma, memory and suffering. Part two, Politics and Subjectivity, turns explicitly to politics and subjectivity, focussing on the state and the various forms of subjection to which it gives rise, and on human rights, biopolitics and community. Each chapter, in different ways, advocates a movement beyond the sort of texts and concepts that are the usual focus for trauma criticism and moves this dynamic network of ideas forward. Classer ici le plagiat Résumé : Prince Myshkin returns to Russia from an asylum in Switzerland. As he becomes embroiled in the frantic amatory and financial intrigues which centre around a cast of brilliantly realised characters and which ultimately lead to tragedy, he emerges as a unique combination of the Christian ideal of perfection and Dostoevsky's own views, afflictions and manners. His serene selflessness is contrasted with the worldly qualities of every other character in the novel. Dostoevsky supplies a harsh indictment of the Russian ruling class of his day who have created a world which cannot accomodate the goodness of this idiot. Titre : The Iliad the Odyssey Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : ………, Auteur Editeur : LONDON : Archives Contemporaines Année de publication : 2013 Importance : 976 p. Format : 19.5cmx12.5cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-84022-117-6 Langues : Français (fre) Langues originales : Français (fre) Index. décimale : 821 Poésie de langue anglaise Résumé : Hector bidding farewell to his wife and baby son, Odysseus bound to the mast listening to the Sirens, Penelope at the loom, Achilles dragging Hector's body round the walls of Troy - scenes from Homer have been reportrayed in every generation. The questions about mortality and identity that Homer's heroes ask, the bonds of love, respect and fellowship that motivate them, have gripped audiences for three millennia. Chapman's Iliad and Odyssey are great English epic poems, but they are also two of the liveliest and readable translations of Homer. Chapman's freshness makes the everyday world of nature and the craftsman as vivid as the battlefield and Mount Olympus. His poetry is driven by the excitement of the Renaissance discovery of classical civilisation as at once vital and distant, and is enriched by the perspectives of humanist thought.
