Titre : The Passing of Protestant England : secularisation and social change Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : s.j.d green, Auteur Editeur : LONDON : Archives Contemporaines Année de publication : 2012 Importance : 333P. Format : 22.5X15 ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978110740765 Langues : Anglais (eng) Langues originales : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 274 Résumé : In this book S. J. D. Green offers an important account of the causes, courses and consequences of the secularisation of English society. He argues that the critical cultural transformation of modern English society was forged in the agonised abandonment of a long-domesticated Protestant, Christian tradition between 1920 and 1960. Its effects were felt across the nation and among all classes. Yet their significance in the evolution of contemporary indigenous identities remains curiously neglected in most mainstream accounts of post-Victorian Britain. Dr Green traces the decline of English ecclesiastical institutions after 1918. He also investigates the eclipse of once-common moral sensibilities during the years up to 1945. Finally, he examines why subsequent efforts to reverse these trends so comprehensively failed. His work will be of enduring interest to modern historians, sociologists of religion, and all those concerned with the future of faith in Britain and beyond. Titre : The Republican Party and American Politics from Hoover to Reagan Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Robert Mason, Auteur Editeur : LONDON : Archives Contemporaines Année de publication : 2014 Importance : 310 p. Présentation : couv. ill. Format : 23.5 x 15.5 cm. ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-107-66614-6 Langues : Anglais (eng) Langues originales : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 324 La vie politique Résumé : History is written by the victors, says the old saw, and so it always seems with the Democratic Party and the long New Deal era. Robert Mason has set out to correct this imbalance with a rich and careful study of politicking inside the Republican Party from the arrival of Franklin Roosevelt to the arrival of Ronald Reagan. We meet the major players, the major factions, the major policies, and the major strategic gambits, all jousting for the chance to bring that long era to an end. Along the way, we are reminded how difficult it is to make sense of our own time while it unfolds and how difficult it is, as a result, to line up the coalition behind some alternative vision.' Titre : The Selected Works of D. H. Lawrence Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Lawrence, Auteur Editeur : LONDON : Archives Contemporaines Année de publication : 2006 Importance : 1353P. Classer ici le plagiat Résumé : Lawrence's reputation as a novelist has often meant that his achievements in poetry have failed to receive the recognition they deserve. This edition brings together, in a form he himself sanctioned, his Collected Poems of 1928, the unexpurgated version of Pansies, and Nettles, adding to these volumes the contents of the two notebooks in which he was still writing poetry when he died in 1930. It therefore allows the reader to trace the development of Lawrence as a poet and appreciate the remarkable originality and distinctiveness of his achievement. Not all the poems reprinted here are masterpieces but there is more than enough quality to confirm Lawrence's status as one of the greatest English writers of the twentieth century.
