Rodney Huddleston's earlier work, An Introduction to the Grammar of English, was praised by reviewers for its clarity, and that is a particular strength of this new textbook as well. The book draws on descriptive and theoretical advances made in modern linguistics, but any significant departures from traditional grammar are pointed out. An important feature of the book is that it explains the major grammatical categories at both a language-particular level (specifically for English) and a general level, so that it could be used as a concise reference work for English by students taking courses in language typology (less) English Grammar : An outline. An important feature of the book is that it explains the major grammatical categories at both a language-particular level (specifically for English) and a general level, so that it could be used as a concise reference work for English by students taking courses in language typology (less) Réservation

English Phonetics and Phonology bridges the gap between simple pronunciation handbooks and technical phonetics and phonology textbooks. The chapters are cross-referenced to the recordings which consist of practical exercises on two cassettes or CDs. At the end of each chapter there are notes giving information on further reading, discussion of difficult issues and, where appropriate, suggestions for teachers. - See more at: http://www.powells.com/book/english-phonetics-phonology-a-practical-course-9780521786133#sthash.787iUz4a.dpuf Réservation

Titre : English Politeness and Class Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Sara Mills, Auteur Editeur : Cambridge University Press Année de publication : 2022 Importance : 148P. Présentation : couv.ill.,col. Format : 23CM*15CM ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-107-53701-9 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : English -Politeness - Class Résumé : Résumé:"Politeness plays a vital role in maintaining class differences. In this highly original account, Sara Mills analyzes the interrelationship between class and linguistic interaction, uncovering the linguistic ideologies behind politeness in British English. She sheds light on the way politeness and rudeness interrelate with the marking of class boundaries, and reveals how middle-class positions in society are marked by people's use of self-deprecation, indirectness and reserve. Systematically challenging received wisdom about cross-cultural and inter-cultural differences, she goes beyond the mere context of the interaction to investigate the social dimension of politeness. This approach enables readers to analyse other languages in the same way, and a range of case studies illustrate how ideologies of politeness are employed and judged"-- Provided by publisher English Politeness and Class [texte imprimé] / Sara Mills, Auteur . - [S.l.] : Cambridge University Press, 2022 . - 148P. : couv.ill.,col. ; 23CM*15CM.

Format : 23.5 x 16 سم.
